Hello, friends!

I hope your summer is drawing to a safe, calm close and you are prepping for Autumn to come. We won’t feel like Autumn until November, but I’m already looking forward to it—though I have to admit, the almost-daily afternoon thunderstorms have kept things tolerable around here.

How are you? Things have been busy at the Hunt house. We’ve had to get a new roof, and I’m sure you know what that means—interminable texts (after you announce you need a new roof), getting bids, learning more about shingles than you ever wanted to know, and then walking gingerly through the lawn lest you step on a nail or a roofing tack. But we are all but done now, and we finally found a roofer whose price was commensurate with others in the neighborhood. One bid was outstandingly huge—nine times the price of our first house! The man said the roof would be guaranteed for 100 years, and I said I didn’t care; I didn’t plan to be around that long.

My elderly mastiff is still with us, still happy, and still requiring me to do a lot of mopping and cleaning every day. Aside from an aching back and a weekly visit to the chiropractor, I don’t mind. She’s a good girl, she’s otherwise healthy, and once I get her on her feet, she can move around the house. But the diapers didn’t work. Three steps, and they fell off her. And I don’t think they make doggie diapers for a 230-pound girl.

Book news: the latest is that THE DAUGHTER OF ROME is a finalist in the Christy Awards! I’m thrilled. And since there are three other great books that are also finalists, I’m celebrating this moment for as long as it lasts. 🙂

You may have heard that UNWAVERING HEART: THE STORY OF REBEKAH got pushed back because the printer went out of business. I’ve never had that happen before! So the September 15th release is now an October 27th release. Rebekah, I realized, often gets a bad reputation for her part in the Isaac/Esau deception, but if you read this book, I think you’ll see she had very good reasons for doing what she did. DEVOTED HEART: THE STORY OF LEAH waits in the wings, releasing in the Spring, and that book will complete the Matriarchs series. Of the three, I think that one is my favorite because I love rooting for a virtuous underdog . . .

THE GLADES releases on October 13th. This is a thriller in the style of THE ELEVATOR or THE FACE: written for the world with a quiet Christian message, not overtly spiritual. I love writing thrillers, and I’ve always felt called to write truth for the world, so this book is especially close to my heart. And it has crocodiles. I don’t like them, but they’re fascinating!

I’m currently at work on another thriller, and after that, I’ve an idea for another Peculiar book—one set in my fictional town of Peculiar, that is. If you enjoyed A MOST PECULIAR PROVIDENCE, take heart, another story is on the way, Lord willing.

Before I let you go—the other day my husband and I watched an episode of THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES on Youtube. We had a ball, and I had forgotten that the show, at its heart, is about good, noble, moral people standing without shame in front of wealthy, elitist snobs and hypocrites. Yea! We need more shows like that. So on those days when this world makes you wonder why Jesus is taking so long to return, watch a few Hillbillies episodes. They’re hilarious, and definitely worth watching again. The actress who played Ellie Mae was a devout believer, too.

What’s your favorite show of yesteryear? (The other day I mentioned Barney Fife to a thirty-something woman. She said, “Who?” I was flabbergasted. I can’t imagine not knowing about Barney. I think he was modeled after the early apostle Peter—all spirit, no sense.)
