Listen to the prophets . . . and see the newborn king

Jesus’ birth, extraordinary as it was to man’s way of thinking, had been pictured and foretold by the Hebrew prophets.  And not only His birth, but His death, His resurrection, and His second coming, which we wait for today.

 
Jesus fulfilled hundreds of Old Testament prophecies. Many of these prophecies involved the circumstances surrounding His birth. Below is a list of several such prophecies. Note the irrefutable similarities between the Old Testament predictions and their New Testament fulfillment.

The Messiah would be an heir to the throne of David.

 

Is. 9:7

The Messiah would be anointed and eternal.

 

Ps. 45:6, 7; 102:25–27

 

Heb. 1:8–12

 

The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.

 

Mic. 5:2

The Messiah would be born of a virgin.

 

Is. 7:14

The Messiah’s birth would trigger a slaughter of children.

The Messiah would be a prophet like Moses:

15 Moses continued, “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you yourselves requested of the Lord your God when you were assembled at Mount Sinai.* You said, ‘Don’t let us hear the voice of the Lord our God anymore or see this blazing fire, for we will die.’

17 “Then the Lord said to me, ‘What they have said is right. 18 I will raise up a prophet like you from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell the people everything I command him. 19 I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to the messages the prophet proclaims on my behalf.
