I can’t remember the last time we went OUT to see a movie, but hubby and I slipped out last night to go see EVAN ALMIGHTY. The verdict? It’s not a “Christian” movie–but if you can swallow the premise that God would appear as Morgan Freeman, it’s very cute. Funny and clean enough for even the little ones. An adorable film.
As entertaining as it was–and it WAS–I just couldn’t help feeling rueful that the gospel had been supplanted by a feel-good, “save the planet” message. It’s one of those movies I would take my kids to see, and then I’d tell them the message God REALLY wants us to share.

Thanks, Angie. I was wondering about that movie!
^Same here. Thanks!
Based on Bruce Almighty, I wasn’t going to go. Maybe we’ll see it now.
I have to go see Pirates first. Shhh. Don’t tell.
Evan is DEFINITELY less adult-oriented (humor) than BRUCE was. Much more family-friendly. There’s only one slightly-off-color gag (muttered twice by the kid, no less) that is a little tasteless (It’s a genetically correct term applied to an animal), but it passes quickly, both times.

My husband took our six- and five-year-old daughters on a date tonight to see Evan/Noah. They loved it. Favorite part = monkey dancing.
The monkey dancing was great! (If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s at the beginning of the credits. Everybody does this dance, and everyone in our theater stayed put to enjoy it! And everyone applauded!) 🙂

Thanks for the review! One of my bloggy friends’ husband got to be in on a little of the planning of the movie. Apparently they approached Steve Sjogren (author of Kindness Evanglism) b/c that’s what they wanted the movie to be about! How cool! Here’s her link, fyi:
