Hi, everybody!

First, happy birthday to my daughter today, for whom I made a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting as per her request.  🙂  I’m leaving to go out of town tomorrow, so I hope everyone in the family eats that huge cake before I get back.  (I already had some for breakfast–bad girl! But at least the cake has eggs in it, and that’s breakfast food.)

I’ve been between books lately and working on this, that, and the other–taking more classes to improve my photography skills, working to get PASSING STRANGERS ready for publication, and waiting to get the details for the next three historical novels ironed out.  I’ve also been doing some research on some topics that interest me, and working here and there on my dissertation.  It’s slow going because there are a lot of emotions involved–mine, plus those of all of you who responded to my “have you been hurt by the church” poll.  Thank you for being so honest–I’m still sifting through all of your comments.

The other

day, Patty emailed to tell me that one of my books was for sale on Amazon for a ridiculous price–over a hundred bucks, or maybe it was a thousand.  She asked how that could be possible, and I told her that once a book goes out of print, some book resellers automatically jack the price up sky high.  I don’t know why they do it, because I doubt any of them sell any books at that price, particularly in an age when the whole world can shop at Amazon, so books which were once hard-to-find are now easily available.   Patty wrote back, laughing, and said that maybe I should explain some of that publishing info with my blog readers.

So–here’s your chance to ask any question you like about publishing, which is changing faster than Florida weather.  Twenty years ago, nearly all reputable books were published by traditional publishers who paid authors to write the books.  These days, however, authors are going straight to their readers and publishing books themselves–either through services offered by Amazon and Barnes and Noble, or through other companies that handle printing and distribution.  I’ve published books in all three ways, and each way has its advantages and disadvantages.

So–if you have a question about the publishing biz, about writing, or life in general, feel free to leave it in the comments section. I’ll be at the Mt. Hermon writer’s conference for the next several days, but they have internet, so I’ll be popping on to answer your questions.

Thanks for reading!

Angie

You know, Joni, I did run across Heartspeak.org a few months ago and went about printing out all their info. I was in the midst of doing everything necessary to join them, but somehow I got sidetracked and never finished up. Thanks for the reminder! I will have to pick up where I left off!
